Product Thinking User Intent Solution Bias

The most useful product sentence I know

Before you debate features, think about this: what is the user actually trying to get done?

A simple product framework I keep coming back to: When I ___, I want to ___, so I can ___.

It helps break user needs into three parts:

  • Context — when does this happen?
  • Intent — what are they trying to do?
  • Outcome — why does it matter?

This is useful because users often ask for features - but it is a PM’s job to understand what the user is trying to achieve.

This matters even more now because AI makes it easier to build quickly. Which means it is easier to build the wrong thing quickly.

This framework forces you to slow down and understand the actual goal first.
